Dear Parents,

It’s hard to believe that two weeks from today will be the first day of school!  So, put Thursday, August 28 on your calendar!  We are looking forward to a new year, with many new students, and new challenges.  For the first challenge, I ask that all students and staff memorize the school theme verse in preparation for our new year.

Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.”  (Colossians 3:12-14)

Our school theme this year will focus upon the character traits seen in this passage.  Please pray with us as we partner together to help build champions for Christ in the students that will be attending Brockton Christian School this year.  In our society, we are continually challenged to conform to the world’s standards of dress, behavior, mindset, and morals, but we are challenged to “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.”  (Proverbs 22:6)  Godly character training is on our hearts for this year.  I pray that you will partner with us in helping YOUR child grow and mature in His image.

What is new at BCS this year?  We have a new teacher joining us, who is not new to the BCS family.  Mrs. Diane LaCasse, mom to Zachary (6) and Nicholas (K-4), is joining us to teach our second grade class.  Mrs. Jennifer Dawbin will be moving up with her last year’s class to grade 3.  Our AfterSchool program will continue to be enhanced with new and exciting activities under the direction of Mrs. Nancy Durang.  We are working on the specifics to continuing karate classes and adding a soccer league to our afterschool hours.  A few of the classes have been relocated to adjust to size and programming needs.

Our school hours this year will be 8:00 – 2:00 PM.  Students will be marked tardy at 8:05.  Please make every effort to have your child on time for school daily.  Even a few minutes of tardiness disrupts the entire class, and prevents quality learning time!

On Thursday, August 28, we will gather outside on the field to begin our first day of school together.  While the students go to their new classrooms, parents are invited to the Ladies’ Parlor office for a cup of coffee and a time of fellowship.  At 9:00, we’ll all gather in the sanctuary to celebrate the beginning of our new year, and to dedicate it to the Lord in prayer.

For the first day of school, please ensure that you have completed the following items:

  • Secured arrangements with Debra Powell in regards to tuition. (with July and August’s tuition payments made)   This year’s tuition should be paid directly to the school
  • Completed payment of your curriculum and consumable fees to BCS.  These will need to be paid prior to the first day of school for your child to receive his/her textbooks and school supplies.
  • Returned your child’s completed Emergency Form
  • Your child should bring their finished book report forms for three books on the Summer Reading list (grades 1 – 8), or plan to spend some quality afterschool time with Mrs. Hodges!
  • New students:  health records and birth certificates must be in the school office prior to the first day of school!
  • A bag lunch and drink for the first three days of school.  Hot lunch will NOT start until Wednesday, September 3, 2008.  Students in grades PreK – 5 will need a morning snack.
  • Lunch order form and payment for the week of September 3 – 5.  MUST be in the first day of school!   Lunch order forms for the week of September 8 – 12 will be sent home the first day of school in your child’s plastic folder.  All lunch orders must be in the school office by Wednesdays at 9:00 AM.  Lunch cost this year will be $1.75 per day and will include meal, fresh fruit or vegetable, and milk.
  • Uniforms will be required for the first day of school.  Gym uniforms will NOT be needed until after September 2.

In the meantime, please keep a few items in prayer as we prepare for the fall semester:

  • Pray for our teachers as they prepare for the fall and ministry here at Brockton Christian School.  Pray that God will supply ALL our needs.
  • Pray for the new students that will be starting at BCS in the fall.  We still have room in some classes, so if you know of a family that is looking for a Christian education, please let us know!
  • Pray for all those connected with the BCS family - students, faculty, staff, and families - that the Lord will continue to bless and lead us.
  • Pray for the ministry of BCS - as we minister to the academic and spiritual needs of our students
  • Pray for our students and the challenge of character that we will be concentrating on this year.  We desire to partner with you to build champions for Christ!

As always, please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.  We will have additional information on our website, and some that will be sent home the first day of school.  We look forward to seeing our students coming back to school – and learning this year!

In His love, for His children – the coming Champions,

Karen I. Hodges,

Principal

Please note that the school busses will not run on August 28, 29, and September 2 due to Brockton Public Schools being closed.  All students, unless staying for AfterCare, will need to be picked up in the front car line at 2:00 PM.  The car line starts in the lower end (stop light end) of the parking lot, and forms a single line moving towards the church end.  Teachers will help dismiss students directly to the cars in line.  Do NOT park and walk your child to your cars.  Thank you.
