Trinity / BCS Building Update |
Dear Parents and Friends of Brockton Christian School – Some of you may know by now about the events of this past weekend. On Saturday, June 24, Trinity Baptist Church, our host church and partner in ministry, had a fire during the night hours. The fire was mostly contained in the kitchen and Fellowship Hall areas, with smoke, heat and water damage located in the brick portion of the building. It seems that, outside of smoke, there was little if no damage to the mansion and wing portions of the building. However, until the building inspector, fire inspector, and insurance adjuster clear the building, we cannot enter or work there. In addition, the electricity and water have been turned off pending inspection. As a result, on a short term basis, both Debra Powell and I are working from our respective homes. You may contact the school at the regular number, which will be forwarded along to me. You may contact me by email at kihodges@comcast.net, and Debra Powell, our treasurer, at dap134@comcast.net. Please let us reassure you that all cleanup and work will be done in the most timely manner that will assure the safety and wellbeing of our staff and students. We are working in partnership with the church with insurance and building matters. While this is certainly a challenge, we know that we serve a God who is greater than any of this. I was encouraged by the church service that was held this morning at Trinity, outside in the rain, where God was praised and He was declared mightier than any fire. Pastor Mark Oliver encouraged all of us to see this as an opportunity to strengthen our faith and to draw closer together. Several churches and ministries in the Brockton area have volunteered their buildings and/or help in the rebuilding process and an alternate site for worship. With all this in mind, I would ask that you all hold us in prayer in the following things:
In closing, may I remind you of the passage in Jeremiah 29:11, where God states, “I know the plans that I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” While a fire is certainly a major issue to handle, we have much to praise God for. The building was empty at the time of the fire. School was over for the year. The firemen were able to contain the damage. No one was hurt while fighting the fire. God WILL use this event to challenge us, but He also promised to use such times to cause growth and to help us lean on Him. When we have more information, we will certainly contact you. At this point, email may be the best, and most cost effective way of keeping in touch. Mail and school payments should be sent to our regular address, 1367 Main St., as we will be collecting it daily. Thank you for your prayers. I do need HIS wisdom in working through all the issues that this event puts in our path. However, we serve a God who is much larger than any building, or event. In Him, for His children,
