UNIFORM POLICY:
2009-2010 School Year

We believe it is the parents’ responsibility to ensure the proper attire of their children. The following uniform standards have been established for Brockton Christian School students. Homeroom teachers are given the primary responsibility for recognizing uniform policy violations. However, other staff members are at liberty to speak to a student if the student is out of uniform at any time during the day. The uniform policy applies at all times on school property and on all field trips unless otherwise specified by the teacher.

Girls' Uniform:

Uniforms are purchased through Harvey Uniforms in Seekonk, MA.  For girls in PreK – 3, the uniform features a choice between a BCS plaid jumper and/or plain navy uniform pants.  Either may be worm with a white, gray or navy BCS polo, and navy sweater with the school logo.  Younger girls may also wear a “Peter Pan” white blouse under the jumper.  Girls in grades 4 – 8 may wear a plaid or gray skirt or the navy uniform pants worm with the polo shirts or a white blouse and navy sweater.   Sweaters are available in either a V-neck cardigan or V-neck pullover style.  A fleece option is also available for everyday wear.

Polo shirts are available in long or short sleeves, and will be worn tucked in at the waist.  Uniform skirt/jumper length is to be no shorter than the top of the knee; however, a longer length is acceptable.

Footwear is to be shoes (black, blue or brown) or sneakers (no flip flops or thong style sandals).  Girls’ shoes should have heels lower than 2”.  Socks or tights should be white, gray, or navy only.  Hats/headscarves are not to be worn inside the building.  Coats, sweatshirts, or polar fleece may not be worn to class; students should wear either of the two school sweaters if warmth is desired.  During the winter months, a plain white turtleneck may be worn under the sweater.  Shorts will be available through Harvey Uniforms for the months of May through September.

Boys' Uniform:

The basic uniform for BCS boys in all grades is purchased through Harvey Uniforms in Seekonk, MA, and consists of plain navy or gray uniform slacks, white, gray or navy BCS polo shirt, with a navy sweater embroidered with the BCS logo.  Sweaters are available in either a V-neck cardigan or V-neck pullover style.  Boys may also choose to wear a white oxford shirt.  Polo and oxford shirts are available in either long or short sleeves.  Shirts should be worn tucked in at the waist.  Hats should not be worn inside the building.

Footwear is to be shoes (black, blue or brown) or sneakers.  Coats, sweatshirts, or polar fleece may not be worn to class; students should wear either of the two school sweaters or school fleece if warmth is desired.  A BCS fleece option is also available for everyday wear.  During the winter months, a plain white turtleneck may be worn under the sweater.  Shorts will be available through Harvey Uniforms for the months of May through September.

Gym Uniform

The gym uniforms must be ordered through Harvey Uniforms.  All pieces will have the BCS logo imprinted on them.  The uniform is the same for both boys and girls.  It is comprised of navy blue sweatpants, BCS tee shirt, and BCS sweatshirt.  Sneakers are required.  A plain navy windpant may also be worn (no other colors on pants).  In the months of May – September, the school uniform shorts may be worn on gym day, if desired.

Recess

The students do go outside for recess. During the winter months, they will go outside weather permitting.  Please be sure that they have proper clothing for the cold weather.  At the discretion of the teacher, a child may be kept indoors due to improper outerwear.

Special Programs

At times, students participate in special programs, such as the Christmas program, Art and Music Festival, and Graduation. These programs, students may be allowed to wear clothing other than the school uniform.  Changes will be made in writing to the parents before the program.  All clothing must be modest in length and coverage (no low cut, short length, or halter/spaghetti strap dresses).

Infraction Consequences

  • First infraction — If a child does not wear the complete uniform, the classroom teacher will send a note home.
  • Second infraction — the child will be dismissed to the office until the parent is notified and the uniform is complete.

Consequences

If a student comes to school out of uniform, parents will be notified.  On the first offense, parents will be notified in writing.  The second time, students will wait in the office for parents to bring the appropriate uniform clothing to school. If a parent cannot be contacted, the student will work in office detention for the day.  If the problem persists, the parent/guardian and student will be required to meet with the Principal to deal with the problem and formulate a solution.  Determination of uniform policy violations is at the discretion of the BCS staff.
